The War of Restoration Interpretation Centre, located in Borba, was inaugurated by the Minister of National Defence, marking the opening of an interactive museum space that contextualizes the historical period of the Portuguese Restoration War (1640-1668), with emphasis on the Battle of Montes Claros in 1665.
The project involved an investment of approximately 650 thousand euros and was led by the Municipality of Borba in partnership with the Battle of Aljubarrota Foundation.
WOWSystems was responsible for the design and development of all interactive multimedia content:
Multimedia Videos - Multiple 3D professionally produced videos narrating and explaining the battles, political contexts and decisive historical moments, from the revolt of 1640 to the Treaty of Lisbon in 1668.
Android Tablet Apps - Native Android tablet apps available at the centre kiosks, allowing visitors to browse detailed information about historical characters, battles, timelines and period cartography.
Sensory Interactive Tunnel - An immersive experience that recreates the battlefield environment through visual, sound and sensory effects, transporting visitors to the Montes Claros battlefield.
The Mayor of Borba, António Anselmo, highlighted the pride in the municipality heritage: «We are Portuguese and we should increasingly be proud to be Portuguese».
The President of the Battle of Aljubarrota Foundation, António Ramalho, emphasised the goal of honouring the historical moment, recalling that «over 40 thousand combatants, over 13 thousand on horseback and over 36 pieces of artillery» took part in the decisive battle.
A project demonstrating how multimedia technology can enhance and make Portuguese historical heritage accessible.
